Marsaskala (or Marsascala) is a delightful area located on the sea in the south of Malta
The city is built around two main bays: Marsaskala and San Tumas, just over a kilometer apart in a straight line. The two bays are connected by a promenade with a splendid view of the marina and the salt pans below.
MARSASKALA BEACHES
The area has a couple of beaches that are easily accessible on foot, by public transport or by car. They tend to be frequented mainly by locals and tourists who live in the city, so there are far fewer crowds than elsewhere. The sand is nice, there are also rocks in this area that are flat and smooth, and there are also holes in the rock where you can plant your umbrella.
St. Thomas Bay – St. Thomas Bay or Bajja ta’ San Tumas – is about a ten-minute walk from the centre of Marsaskala. The area is easily accessible, with a couple of sandy coves separated by lots of flat rocks where you can sunbathe.
There are also shops and restaurants in the bay. To get to the beach you can get off at the Bajja stop, which is served by all the buses that go to Marsaskala.
Opposite the bay is Zion, one of the few open-air reggae venues in Malta: in the summer there are parties every day of the week, although Fridays and Saturdays are the most popular days.
Zonqor Point is located on the other side of Marsaskala Bay, beyond the church of St. Anne. In fact, there are no real beaches, the sea is practically open. The good thing is that it is one of the few places where you can always park your car, it is also a good place for diving.
